Physiotherapy / Physiotherapist – English in Berlin

Physiotherapie

Welcome to the private practice for physiotherapy and pain management in the heart of Westberlins district of Charlottenburg

Typically your first contact to physiotherapy will occur when you experience your first episode of back pain, or you realize that familiar movements suddenly hurt, are difficult, or do not go at all. This is the time when you start looking for the “right” therapy. It has been shown that an adequate physiotherapy can be crucial in the process of your recovery.

After going through diagnostics your medical doctor will usually tell you what anatomical structures are responsible for your complaints and symptoms (i.e. lumbar spine, knee joint, shoulder joint). However, to successfully treat movement disorders it is often not sufficient to locally treat the affected structures on their own. In most complaints of the musculoskeletal system the underlying cause is a functional movement disorder that may be associated with structural changes (i.e. disc protrusion, meniscus lesion, rotator cuff tear), but cannot be exclusively justified by these changes.

In some complaints, as in chronic low back pain (LBP) or neck pain, no definite structure can be identified as the cause for the symptoms at all. In these cases we speak of unspecific LBP where therapy has to focus on the entire human being integrating all aspects contributing to the experience of pain.

-why and not what-

Therefore, my interest does not merely lie in treating your symptoms, but in fully understanding your problem and the factors contributing to it (why). By helping you address the cause of your problem you can take an active role in the treatment, and learn which movements are helpful or unfavourable. Research has shown that active rehabilitation is an effective way of managing musculoskeletal problems, including chronic back and neck pain. This is why I take time in developing an individual treatment plan that meets your needs.

I centre my work around the assessment of movement dysfunctions and muscular imbalances and have specialized on:

  • recurrent low back pain and neck pain
  • headaches and vertigo
  • shoulder problems (i.e. frozen shoulder)
  • hip and knee problems
  • post operative bunion treatment (hallux valgus)
